520			_aSe llevó a cabo un experimento para medir el efecto de la suplementación con fósforo sobre la eficiencia reproductiva de ganado Hereford en praderas naturales. Los tratamientos fueron los siguientes: - Tratamiento No. 1: Sal (cloruro de sodio) a voluntad. - Tratamiento No. 2: Hueso molido y sal (cloruro de sodio), a voluntad. - Tratamiento No. 3: Fertilización de la pradera natural con superfosfato y sal (cloruro de sodio) a voluntad. Los animales experimentales fueron 87 vacas Hereford. Se realizaron palpaciones rectales a los 45, 90 y 150 días de gestación para determinar pérdidas fetales. Se tomaron muestras de sangre de hatos durante la lactancia, destete y preñez para determinar fósforo inorgánico. Se pudo notar una tendencia general en los tres lotes a perder peso, en comparación con el periodo anterior en que los incrementos de peso fueron sostenidos. Sin embargo, las diferencias en los pesos iniciales y finales en los tres lotes indican que el manejo fue similar para todos los tratamientos, con excepción del tratamiento de fertilizante y sal. Los niveles de fósforo en la sangre de las vacas en los tres tratamientos fueron satisfactorios. Los niveles de fósforo en la sangre de los dos tratamientos que recibieron fósforo suplementario se mantuvieron constantes a través de todo el periodo. A pesar de que el nivel nutricional no fue el adecuado, los animales en el tratamiento de sal en ningún momento mostraron síntomas de deficiencia de fósforo.
520			_aAn experiment was carried out to measure the effect of phosphorus supplementation on the reproductive efficiency of Hereford cattle on natural pastures. The treatments were the following: - Treatment No. 1: Salt (sodium chloride) ad libitum. - Treatment No. 2: Bone meal plus salt (sodium chloride), ad libitum. - Treatment No. 3: Superphosphate fertilized native pasture with salt (sodium chloride) ad libitum. The experimental animals were 87 Hereford cows. Rectal palpations were performed at 45, 90, and 150 days of gestation to determine fetal loss. Blood samples were taken from herds during lactation, weaning, and pregnancy to determine inorganic phosphorus. A general tendency could be noted in the three batches to lose weight, compared to the previous period in which the weight increases were sustained. However, the differences in initial and final weights in the three plots indicate that management was similar for all treatments, except the fertilizer and salt treatment. The levels of phosphorus in the blood of the cows in the three treatments were satisfactory. Phosphorus levels in the blood of the two treatments that received supplemental phosphorus remained constant throughout the entire period. Even though the nutritional level was not adequate, the animals in the salt treatment did not show symptoms of phosphorus deficiency at any time.
