520			_aLa presente tesis de investigación aborda el tema de la tenencia y el uso actual de la tierra en la cuenca del lago Petén Itzá, en el período comprendido desde la disolución del FYDEP en 1986 hasta el 2001. Por medio de imágenes satelares se determinó el uso actual y la tasa de deforestación en la cuenca. A la vez, se elaboró un catastro digital de la misma, basado en los levantamientos realizados en los últimos seis años alrededor de la cuenca por varios proyectos financiados por el gobierno y agencias internacionales así como el catastro digitalizado del fondo de tierras, los cuales fueron integrados para poder realizar los análisis definidos. Se construyó una base de datos de 1085 fincas privadas y ejidales, y 312 arrendamientos que se encuentran incluidas parcial o totalmente en el área de influencia de la cuenca. Dicho catastro sirvió para hacer los análisis espaciales que permitieron identificar las diferencias en el uso de la tierra en los diferentes regímenes de propiedad. Los resultados más importantes indican que dentro de la cuenca, en un período de quince años fueron convertidas 14941 ha de bosque a usos agrícolas o ganaderos, es decir un 13 por ciento de su área total que se estiman en 115513 ha. El área agrícola/ganadera en el año 2001 se estima en 43 por ciento de la cuenca y el área boscosa en un 38.37 por ciento. Se calculó que 6615 ha fueron afectadas por incendios forestales (5.74 por ciento).
520			_aThis investigation examines the linkage between the land tenure and land use in the Petén Itzá Lake basin in the period of 1986 to 2001. Through satellite imagery land use and deforestation rate in the basin was determined. At the same time a digital cadastre was elaborated, based on the information generated by five land tenure regularization projects that worked in the area since 1996 and the digitized cadastre of the FONTIERRAS. This cadastre was used to defined the land tenure types areas and for the land change use analysis in each type of land tenure. A base data containing information about 1085 private and ejidal farms and 312 arrendamientos included partial or totally in the basin influence area was elaborated. These data base was used for the spatial analysis in the principal land tenures types. The main result indicate that 14941 ha (13 percent of the total basin area (115513 ha), was changed to agricultural and cattle ranching uses. The agricultural/pasture land use area is estimated in 43 percent of the basin and the forest area is 38.37 percent. 6615 ha (5.74 percent) were affected by firewood.
