The disease occurred whether seedlings were planted directly on harrowed seed beds or in plastic potting bags. Crosses involving clones known to be resistant to black pod in the field (e.g. Sa 6, Pa 7, T 79/501) were little affected, but clones known to be highly susceptible (e.g. Na32) were heavily diseased. Kocide at a concentration of 0.91 kg in 45 l of water was found to control pre- and post-emergence seddling deaths when applied as a seed dressing and a soil drench.
