Editor: 1980Tema(s): RECURSOS HIDRICOS | COSTA RICA | WATER RESOURCES | COSTA RICAClasificación CDD: 40469 En: Agronomía Costarricense (Costa Rica) v.4(2) p.183-186Resumen: Nitrate content was studied in groundwater from the Northeastern portion of Rio Cañas basin at Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The region comprises 367 square kilometers of the Nicoya Complex and the Rivas geological formations. Samples from 116 wells were analysed during the discharge and recharge periods of the aquifer. Anion concentrations higher than 10 mg/l were found for 16 per cent of the wells during the rainy season, whereas 29.5 per cent of them showeed concentrations ranging between 10 and 45 mg/l during the same period. This was supossed to be a contamination by percolation of fertilizers down the aquifer
