Study of the natural forests of both species has confirmed their potential value for plantation in many tropical countries, especially on seasonally dry and infertile sites. Variation observed both within and between the natural populations offers possibilities for improved adaptation to site and production requirements. Some natural populations are in danger of depletion or extinction and further international action is needed to conserve and develop their genetic resources
