Se identifican las principales actividades realizadas por el Instituto en Costa Rica durante el 2019, con respecto a las necesidades e interés del país, contribuyendo en la elaboración del plan nacional de fortalecimiento del sector aguacatero y del sector bioeconómico, el plan estratégico institucional del IICA y en la construcción del primer plan de acción de la Política de Igualdad de Género para el desarrollo inclusivo en el sector agropecuario. Asimismo, se formuló una política agropecuaria en la región, un sistema agroforestal adaptado para el Corredor Seco, el Acuerdo General de Cooperación Técnica entre el Instituto del Café de Costa Rica (ICAFE) y el IICA, para fortalecer las competencias de cooperación técnica e investigación en la agrocadena del café y propuestas técnico-económicas para establecer programas financieros que contribuyan a fortalecer los sectores cacaoteros y ganaderos costarricenses. Se realizaron estudios de mercado sobre los productos en el mercado costarricense, brindando planes de comercialización, así como la elaboración de una propuesta para el desarrollo de una nueva institucionalidad en el sector lechero bovino de México. Finalmente, se llevo a cabo el primer hackaton para el sector agropecuario, con el fin de crear un sistema para estimar los impactos de los desastres en el sector pecuario.

The main activities carried out by the Institute in Costa Rica during 2019 are identified, with respect to the needs and interests of the country, contributing to the preparation of the national plan to strengthen the avocado sector and the bioeconomic sector, the institutional strategic plan of IICA and in the construction of the first action plan of the Gender Equality Policy for inclusive development in the agricultural sector. Likewise, an agricultural policy was formulated in the region, an agroforestry system adapted to the Dry Corridor, the General Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (ICAFE) and IICA, to strengthen technical cooperation and research competencies in the coffee agro-chain and technical-economic proposals to establish financial programs that contribute to strengthening the Costa Rican cocoa and cattle sectors. Market studies were carried out on the products in the Costa Rican market, providing commercialization plans, as well as the elaboration of a proposal for the development of a new institutionality in the bovine dairy sector in Mexico. Finally, the first hackathon for the agricultural sector was held, in order to create a system to estimate the impacts of disasters in the livestock sector.
