La especie de mayor producción de materia seca, energía metabolizable y proteína cruda fue P. maximum, que superó a B. brizantha y B. decumbens (34.8, 19.2 y 14.0 t MS ha-1 año-1; 12.3, 5.9 y 4.0 Gcal ha-1 ciclo-1; 533, 298 y 201 kg PC ha-1 ciclo-1, respectivamente). La eficiencia del uso de radiación (EUR) fue mayor en las áreas sombreadas que en las expuestas al sol. P. maximum fue la gramínea de mayor EUR, respecto a B. brizantha y B. decumbens (3.6, 1.8 y 1.4 g MS MJ-1).Resumen: The effect of two tree species (Acacia mangium and Eucalyptus deglupta) on the productivity and radiation use efficiency (RUE) of three grasses (Brachiaria brizantha, B. decumbens and Panicum maximum) was studied in Guápiles, Costa Rica. P. maximum was the species of greater production of dry matter, metabolizable energy and crude protein, outproducing B. brizantha and B. decumbens (34.8, 19.2 and 14.0 t DM ha-1 year-1; 12.3, 5.9 and 4.0 Gcal ha-1 cycle-1; 533, 298 and 201 kg CP ha-1 cycle-1, respectively). The radiation use efficiency (RUE) was greater in shaded zones than in those exposed to sun. P. maximum was the grass with the greatest RUE, exceeding B. brizantha and B. decumbens (3.6, 1.8 and 1.4 g DM MJ-1).
