Se evaluó la productividad actual y potencial de madera en potreros activos,analizando los beneficios financieros del aprovechamiento maderable sostenible en fincas ganaderas mediante trámites simplificados, analizando las bondades y limitaciones de la legislación para el aprovechamiento forestal sostenible en sistemas agroforestales con énfasis en fincas ganaderas de Costa Rica. Para el efecto se realizó un inventario de todos los brinzales, latizales y fustales encontrados en 135 potreros activos de 57 fincas ganaderas de Esparza, Costa Rica.Se encontró un total de 6549 fustales, 1047 latizales y 2509 plántulas de regeneración natural pertenecientes a 32 familias, 54 géneros y 63 especies arbóreas. El 66% de las especies (42 especies) fueron catalogadas como de uso maderable, de las cuales el 12% tuvieron un alto valor comercial, el 23% un valor comercial medio y el 42% de ellas presentaron regeneración natural activa, existiendo un potencial para su manejo con fines maderables. Por otro lado se encontró que debido a la excesiva regulación que existe en Costa Rica para la solicitud de trámites de aprovechamientos maderables, en la actualidad los ganaderos no se ven atraídos para la producción de árboles maderables en sus potreros y por lo tanto, no se garantiza la permanencia de varias especies a futuro.

For the present study an inventory was conduct for the seedlings, saplings and steam stages in 135 active pastures of 57 cattle properties in Esparza, Costa Rica. The results show a total of 6549 steaMON, 1047 saplings and 2509 seedlings of natural regeneration belonging to 32 families, 54 genus and 63 arboreal species. A 66% of the species (42 species) were catalogued for timber extraction, in which 12% and 23% had a high and mid commercial value, respectively. A 42% of species had active natural regeneration with a potential for their handling with timber extractions aiMON.On the other hand, due to the excessive regulation that exists in Costa Rica to request a timber extraction, cattle dealer are not theMONelves attracted for the production of timber trees in their pastures and therefore, is not guaranteed the permanence of several species in the future.
