Con el propósito de identificar el potencial de ocho comunidades indígenas y una comunidad campesina para llevar a cabo prácticas de manejo forestal comunitario, se formuló un estándar con base al enfoque de medios de vida. El estándar de PC&I se complementó con una protocolo de aplicación constituido por protocolo de entrevista semiestructurada, protocolo de observación, guías de campo y fichas por indicador. Se determinó la situación actual de los capitales en las comunidades, en cuáles capitales las comunidades han invertido y cuáles son los más débiles, así como la necesidad de invertir en el capital social como factor indispensable para iniciar actividades de manejo forestal a nivel comunitario. De la misma manera, fue posible identificar los principios y criterios que se relacionan a actividades de manejo forestal, comparando entre las comunidades con y sin experiencia en manejo forestal. Al final, fue posible confirmar que las comunidades tienen capitales unos más fuertes que otros, sin embargo es recomendable invertir en los capitales social y humano que muestran debilidad en las nueve comunidades estudiadas.

In order to identify the potential of eight indigenous and peasant communities to conduct community forestry management practices, a standard livelihood-based approach was formulated. The principles, criteria and indicators standard was complemented with an application protocol (guidelines) consisting of a semi-structured interview protocol, an observation protocol, field guidelines and notecards per indicator. It was also determined what the current situation of the capitals is in each community, in which capital communities have invested more and what are the weakest capitals as well as the need to invest in the social capital as an essential factor in the initiation of community forest management. In the same way, it was possible to identify the principles and criteria more associated with forest management activities comparing communities with and without experience in forest management. At the end, it was possible to confirm that the communities have capitals, some stronger than others. However, it is recommendable to invest in the human and social capitals which show weaknesses in the nine communities under study.
