Se realizó una revisión de literatura acerca de las características que describen a la capacidad empresarialResumen: posteriormente se elaboró una herramienta que permitió determinar cuantitativamente la capacidad empresarial, realizándose análisis comparativos entre los resultados obtenidos de los productores en estudio con productores exitosos y finalizando con la simulación de diferentes ponderaciones en las características más importantes. Se determinó que las características creatividad e innovación y conocimientos y capacidades son las que merecen ser mayormente fortalecidas para que los productores del Programa de Desarrollo Comunitario de la Universidad EARTH puedan desarrollar su capacidad empresarial y, de esta manera, elevar su competitividad.Resumen: The present study evaluated the management capacities in the small producers inscribed to the Program of Community Development of the University EARTH, coming from the canton of Guácimo, Costa Rica. A review of literature was carried out about the characteristics that describe to the management capacityResumen: later there was elaborated a tool that allowed to determine quantitatively the management capacity, being realized comparative analysis among the obtained results of the producers in study with successful producers and concluding with the simulation of different weightings in the most important characteristics. This way, it was determined that the characteristic creativity and innovation and knowledge and capacities are those that deserve to be mostly strengthened in order that the producers of the Program of Community Development of the University EARTH can develop its management capacity and, this way, to raise its competitiveness.
