Esta investigación consintió en determinar los elementos claves para el diseño e implementación de un pago por el servicio ecosistémico de protección del recurso hídrico en el municipio de Valle de Angeles, Honduras. El proceso metodológico consintió en el análisis biofísico de la provisión del servicio ecosistémico, la determinación de los costos de proveer ese servicio y la identificación y medición de la demanda efectiva de los servicios ecosistémicos según los beneficiarios potenciales, mediante el método de valoración contingente. Se estimó que con el 20 por ciento de la voluntad de pago promedio máxima de los demandantes es posible técnicamente la realización del proyecto, sin embargo será necesario establecer el marco institucional del esquema y conocer la voluntad política de la municipalidad que administra el sistema de agua.

The aim of the present research was to determine the key elements for the design and implementation of an ecosystem services payment for the water resource in Valle de los Angels, Honduras. The methodological process consisted in a bio-physical analysis of the ecosystem service provided, the determination of the costs for providing this service and the identification and measurement of the effective demand of the ecosystemic services by potential beneficiaries, through a contingent valuation method. We estimated that with 20 per cent of the highest willingness to pay of the demanders the accomplishment of the project is technically possible, nevertheless will be necessary to establish the institutional frame of the scheme and to know the political will of the municipality that administrates the water resources.
