Con este estudio se inicia un proceso de investigación el cual se desarrolló como parte del convenio entre INAB-CATIE-FAO, para implementar un sistema integrado de manejo de información forestal, el cual incluye una base de datos técnica y gerencial-administrativa. Esta investigación se realizó en la región forestal 2, en los departamentos de Alta y Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, a inicios del año 2002, siendo los objetivos específicos el establecimiento de una red de parcelas de monitoreo (PPM); el análisis y comparación en crecimiento y rendimiento de las especies prioritarias por subregion forestal, tamaño de finca, y tipo de propietario, así como también, la evaluación del estado actual en términos de forma y defectos de los árboles, sobrevivencia y el estado fitosanitario de las plantaciones por especie y subregión.

This study initiates a process of research developed as part of an agreement between Inab-Catie-Fao, to implement an integrated system of forestry, information that includes a technical and administrative management data base. This research was carried out in forestry region 2 in the departmentss of Alta and Baja Verapaz Guatemala in the beginning of 2002. being the specifics objectives the establisment of a network for plot monitoring PPM, the analysis and compararison in growth and yield of priority species for the forest subregion, farm size, type of owner, and also the evaluation of current tree status on terms of size and defects, survival and phitosanitary staus plantations per species and subregion.
