La medición de alturas totales con un clinómetro Suunto que arroje lecturas en porcentaje y una vara de longitud conocida, es una alternativa para ejecutar la medición sin necesidad de conocer la distancia al árbol. Los errores de medición observados aumentan exponencialmente cuando la altura de los árboles excede en 4 ó 5 veces la longitud de la vara. Al comparar 314 mediciones hechas por tres observadores, se reportan diferencias promedio entre alturas reales y estimadas de 0.67 m para alturas reales menores a 24 m, con una vara de 5 m de longitud. Estas diferencias se consideran típicas a las condiciones propias de los bosques de pino de Honduras y aceptables al método de medición de alturas usado |
