Presenta aspectos relevantes de la evolución del cultivo de la soja en Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay. Se incluye una breve historia de la siembra de soja en los cuatro países, una descripción de los componentes del paquete tecnológico; un resumen de la legislación actual sobre bioseguridad; los impactos productivos, ambientales y económicos de la tecnología de producción de soja, así como un análisis de posibles escenarios productivos. Las conclusiones del estudio se resumen de la manera siguiente: el cultivo de soja GM en Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay ha evolucionado positivamente desde que se sembró por primera vez en la región; el paquete tecnológico aplicado a la soja es más eficiente que la aplicación independiente de cualquiera de sus componentes; la introducción de semilla de soja GM revolucionó al cultivo en los cuatro países, por la facilidad de su manejo agronómico, el control de las malezas y la disminución de los costos de producción; el paquete tecnológico genera beneficios ambientales y económicos que superan al mismo paquete aplicado al cultivo de soja convencional. |

Presents relevant aspects of the evolution of soybean cultivation in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. It includes a brief history of soybean planting in the four countries, a description of the components of the technological package; a summary of current biosafety legislation; the productive, environmental and economic impacts of soybean production technology, as well as an analysis of possible production scenarios. The conclusions of the study are summarized as follows: the cultivation of GM soy in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay has evolved positively since it was first planted in the region; the technological package applied to soybeans is more efficient than the independent application of any of its components; the introduction of GM soybean seed revolutionized the crop in the four countries, due to the ease of its agronomic management, the control of weeds and the reduction of production costs; the technological package generates environmental and economic benefits that exceed the same package applied to conventional soybean cultivation. |
