Summary, etc Este documento recoge las principales normativas relacionadas con la gestión del riesgo y los seguros agrícolas, las instituciones con competencia en el tema y los sistemas de información que nutren la labor de estas instituciones. Los datos recopilados por país permiten ponderar el grado de penetración de los seguros, el tipo de cobertura que se ofrece y las empresas aseguradoras y reaseguradoras que prestan este tipo servicio en el mercado. Esta publicación debe tomarse como el inicio de un proceso que busca analizar a fondo el mercado de seguros agropecuarios y que se espera tenga continuidad en próximas ediciones. Confiamos en que el documento sirva para identificar las necesidades de cooperación técnica de los países en este tema, sobre todo de los países de menor desarrollo relativo.

Summary, etc This document describes the most important innovations in risk management and agricultural insurance, the institutions that deal with the issue and the information systems that provide input for their work. The data on individual countries provide a glimpse of the extent to which insurance coverage is provided or penetration of insurance, the types of coverage offered and the insurance and reinsurance companies that provide this type of service. This publication is the first of a series of planned studies of the agricultural insurance market. We trust that it will help identify the countries’ needs for technical cooperation on this issue, especially in the case of relatively less-developed countries.
