Este documento refleja la diversidad de disciplinas en los equipos, incluyendo científicos en las áreas de las ciencias sociales, agroforestería, ecología, ecofisiología, zootecnia y nutrición animal. Los estudios anteriores a los conducidos por SILPAS y FUNCiTREE produjeron avances importantes sobre los sistemas silvopastoriles en Nicaragua y en otras zonas de América<br/>Central. Estos han llevado a reconocer el valor fundamental de la cobertura arbórea en las fincas ganaderas en la región, en los productos que brindan y en la importancia que esta tiene en el mantenimiento de una alta diversidad de especies. La investigación se han enfocado en los atributos de los árboles y en los roles que juegan de acuerdo a estos atributos, con el fin de diseñar sistemas silvopastoriles multifuncionales en zonas donde la estacionalidad de lluvias es muy marcada. Los estudios abarcan varios aspectos sobre cómo las diferencias entre árboles afectan la respuesta a la estacionalidad climática, la producción de alimento para el ganado en la época seca, la capacidad de brindar sombra y finalmente cómo afectan la producción de la pastura, la fertilidad del suelo y la producción de leche. |
