Para cuantificar el potencial de las plantaciones forestales como mitigadoras del cambio climático se necesita información de la biomasa total y de su ritmo de crecimiento. Estudiar la dinámica de la biomasa es una actividad compleja y costosa según el método utilizado. El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue construir modelos alométricos para estimar la biomasa arbórea (hojas, ramas, fuste y raíz) en Alnus acuminata (Kunth) en Costa Rica. Se evaluaron 39 parcelas distribuidas en seis sitios o fincas (Lechería 2, Landelina, Hermanos Pinto, Matinilla, Julieta Vargas, Juanito Hernández), ubicadas en el cantón de Vásquez de Coronado y se extrajeron 47 árboles con diámetros entre 4,5 y 44,5 cm. En los modelos seleccionados para el fuste, la raíz y la biomasa total del árbol se logró un R2 aj >93,87%, mientras que para las hojas y las ramas un R2 aj de 88%. El factor de expansión de biomasa promedio fue de 1,22 para biomasa aérea y de 1,43 cuando se incluyó la raíz. La biomasa almacenada en las plantaciones aumentó con la edad de los árboles, pasando aproximadamente de 9 Mg ha-1 cuando las plantaciones tienen menos de 5 años a 77 Mg ha-1 cuando superan los 10 años. El incremento medio anual fue de 2 Mg ha-1 a un promedio de 6,25 Mg ha-1 entre los 5 y los 10 años, respectivamente. |

To quantify the potential of forest plantations as mitigating the climate change, the biomass and its growth rhythm information is required. The study of the biomass behavior is a complex and expensive activity that depends in the used method. The main objective of this research was to build allometric models to estimate the aerial biomass (leaves, branches, shank) and radical in Alnus acuminata (Kunth) in Costa Rica. Thirty nine plots distributed in 6 different places were evaluated, (Lechería 2, Landelina, Hermanos Pinto, Matinilla, Julieta Vargas, Juanito Hernández) all of them located in Vásquez de Coronado, where fourty seven trees were extracted with a diametric range between 4,5 y 44,5 cm. In the selected models, for the shank, roots and total biomass of the tree, a R2 aj >93,87%, was reached, while for branches and leaves a R2 aj de 88% was accomplished. The average expansion factor was 1,22 for aerial biomass and 1,43 when the root was included. The stored biomass increased with the trees ages, from 9,0 Mg ha-1 when the plantations have less than 5 years to 77 Mg ha-1 when they have above 10 years old. The average annual increase was from 2 Mg ha-1 at an average of 6,5 Mg ha-1 between 5 and 10 years respectively. |
