Se estudiaron los diversos factores exógenos y endógenos que vienen incidiendo en el desempeño de la cooperativa CACAONICA, con la finalidad de poder establecer pautas que le permitan mejorar su posicionamiento y gobernanza dentro de la cadena en la que participa. Se recopiló información primaria a través de la aplicación de cuestionarios a productores (n=70), entrevistas semiestructuradas a los actores claves de la cadena (n=17) y 4 talleres participativos con un grupo focal conformado por 18 personas involucradas directamente con el desempeño de la organización. La intervención de PMH es el principal factor exógeno que ha incidido en el desempeño y la gobernanza de CACAONICA. Dicha intervención respondió, entre otras causas, al interés mostrado por la empresa chocolatera alemana Ritter Sport por apoyar la producción de cacao en Nicaragua. Por otro lado, los principales factores endógenos que vienen afectando el desempeño y gobernanza de la cooperativa son las insuficientes capacidades gerenciales de sus directivos como de sus empleados, y el bajo compromiso por parte de los socios, a causa de la falta tanto de líderes empresariales como de reglas claras sobre los beneficios por estar afiliado.<br/> |

This investigation studied both exogenous and endogenous factors which affect CACAONICA's performance, in order to establish guidelines for improving its positioning and governance within the value chain in which it participates. Primary information was gathered through questionnaires applied to producers (n=70), semi-structured interviews with key actors in the chain (n=17) and 4 participatory workshops with a focus group comprised of 18 people directly involved with the performance of the organization.PMH's intervention is the main exogenous factor that has affected the performance and governance of CACAONICA. That intervention responded, among other causes, to the interest of Ritter Sport in supporting the production of cocoa in Nicaragua.On the other hand, the main endogenous factors which affect the performance and governance of the cooperative include inadequate managerial skills of its directors and employees, and low commitment of members because of the lack of both business leaders and clear rules on benefits from such affiliation. |
