Con base en consultas con actores locales, se identificaron instituciones y organizaciones con presencia en la subcuenca del río Jucuapa, Nicaragua, que han ejecutado, están ejecutando o tienen previsto ejecutar proyectos de manejo de recursos hídricos. Mediante una entrevista semiestructurada y talleres participativos se recopiló información primaria y secundaria. Los resultados indican que no se han ejecutado proyectos sobre gestión integrada del recurso hídrico que integren, de manera explícita, la participación de la mujer. Aunque la participación de la mujer en la gestión del agua no ha sido activa, actualmente más del 30 por ciento de los cargos directivos en organizaciones locales los ocupan mujeres. Los actores nacionales y municipales coinciden en que ellas deben ser miembros de los comités de agua potable y saneamiento, de manera que puedan incidir en la toma de decisiones. Las mujeres usuarias del agua expresaron que ellas deben fortalecer sus capacidades para participar de manera activa en la toma de decisiones, por su papel principal en la provisión, administración, uso, manejo y conservación del agua para consumo humano. |

Local stakeholders in Jucuapa River sub-watershed, Nicaragua, were consulted to identify organizations working locally with water management. Primary and secondary information was gathered by means of semi-structured interviews and participative workshops. No present or past projects related to water management have considered woman participation; even though, 30 percent of directive posts are presently filled by women. National and municipal stakeholders agree on female participation as members of drinking water and public health committees, to guarantee their incidence on decision taking. Women as water users think that they should strengthen their abilities to actively participate, as long as they are the main providers, users, administrators, managers, and keepers of water for human consumption. |
