Junto con actores locales claves de la microcuenca del río La Soledad, Valle de Ángeles, Honduras, se elaboró una metodología participativa que permitiera definir la línea base para el monitoreo biofísico y socioambiental, según el enfoque de cogestión de cuencas hidrográficas promovido por CATIE en América Central. Dicha metodología favorece un proceso permanente y sostenible de toma de decisiones y fortalece las capacidades locales. La metodología consta de tres fases: 1) reuniones con actores locales para discutir la importancia y necesidad de establecer una línea base para el monitoreo de las acciones que se realizan como parte del manejo de una cuenca; 2) con la participación de los actores interesados, se identifican indicadores posibles y se seleccionan los más representativos; 3) junto con el actor responsable de cada indicador, se diseñan los protocolos para la caracterización de los indicadores y los formatos para la recopilación de información, con sus respectivos instructivos. La información recopilada es luego analizada para valorar su calidad y utilidad. La metodología resultó útil y viable; los actores locales no tuvieron problemas para implementarla |

A participative methodology was elaborated in collaboration with local stakeholders from La Soledad River micro-watershed, Valle de Angeles, Honduras. This methodology was intended to define a baseline for the biophysical and socio-environmental monitoring of watersheds, according to the collaborative watershed management focus promoted by CATIE in Central America. The methodology favors a sustainable and permanent process for decision-making, and strengthens local capacities. The methodology is composed of three steps: 1) meetings with local stakeholders to discuss the importance and necessity of establishing a baseline for monitoring watershed management; 2) with the participation of interested stakeholders, indicators are identified and selected; 3) along with the responsible for each indicator, protocols for indicator characterization and formats for data gathering are designed, and guidelines are composed. Information gathered is then analyzed to assess its quality and usefulness. The methodology turned out to be useful and viable; local actors had no problems with implementation |
