Se exploraron las percepciones que sobre los bosques ribereños tienen 20 productores ubicados en la microcuenca del río Sesesmiles, Departamento de Copán, Honduras. Los productores destacan el valor de los bosques ribereños a nivel ambiental y socioeconómico. Sin embargo, existe una fuerte presión sobre estos bosques, ya que los suelos bajo la vegetación ribereña son apreciados para establecer cultivos y pasturas. Los productores utilizan algunos productos del bosque ribereño, como leña, madera y fruta, los cuales son parte importante de sus condiciones de supervivencia. Los productores perciben que es necesario recibir capacitación sobre el manejo de los bosques ribereños para recuperar y proteger un recurso en peligro de desaparición. |

The local perceptions of 20 producers about riparian forests were explored. Producers are located along water courses in the Sesesmiles river micro-watershed, Copán, Honduras. They recognize the environmental and socioeconomic values of riparian forests. Nevertheless, there is a strong pressure on these forests, since soils under riparian vegetation are worthwhile for crops and pastures. Producers use some products from the riparian forest (fuelwood, wood and fruit), of primary importance for their livelihoods. Training on riparian forest management is necessary if recovering and protecting an endangered resource is pursued. |
