Se evaluó la escorrentía superficial, la capacidad de infiltración, la conductividad hidráulica del suelo y la cobertura vegetal en cuatro sistemas de uso de la tierra en la zona de recarga de la subcuenca del río Jabonal, Costa Rica. Los sistemas evaluados fueron: pasturas nativas sobrepastoreadas sin árboles, pasturas nativas con árboles, pasturas mejoradas con árboles y un bosque secundario intervenido. La escorrentía superficial mostró un comportamiento inverso a la cobertura arbórea en las fincas ganaderas; se determinó una correlación negativa de la cobertura arbórea y del área basal con respecto a la escorrentía superficial. La capacidad de infiltración presentó una correlación positiva con la cobertura de árboles y el área basal, lo que implica que la infiltración mejoró donde hay una mayor cobertura arbórea. Los sistemas silvopastoriles presentaron características hidrológicas de escorrentía e infiltración intermedias entre las pasturas sobrepastoreadas y los bosques secundarios. Esto demuestra sus beneficios potenciales para recuperar y mejorar el manejo de pasturas en la subcuenca del río Jabonal. |

Superficial runoff, infiltration capacity, hydraulic conductivity, and vegetal cover were evaluated in four land use systems in the recharge area of Jabonal River sub-watershed, Costa Rica. The systems evaluated were: overgrazed native pasture with no trees, native pasture with trees, improved pastures with trees, and intervened secondary forest. Superficial runoff and forest cover showed and inverse relationship in the cattle ranches evaluated; a negative correlation between forest cover and basal area, and superficial runoff was found. Infiltration capacity showed a positive correlation with forest cover and basal area; it implied that infiltration improved with forest cover. Silvopastoral systems showed intermediate runoff and infiltration values, evidencing potential benefits for pasture management and recovery in the Jabonal River sub-watershed. |
