Summary, etc	El objetivo de la presente investigación fue evaluar el efecto de biocontrol de hongos endofíticos sobre el nematodo barrenador Radopholus similis, en cuatro fincas comerciales de banano en Costa Rica. Estos datos sugieren que las tres aplicaciones de nematidicias pueden ser sustituida por una sola inoculación de hongos endofíticos sin afectar el manejo de R. similis, en plantaciones comerciales. Por otra parte, la inoculación con los hongos endofíticos promovió el crecimiento de las plantas significativamente, lo cual obligó a adelantar la siembra 2 semanas antes de la fecha programada. La misma tendencia de promoción de crecimiento se registró en condiciones de campo, principalmente en las plantas inoculadas con los hongos T. atroviride, S-2 y F. oxysporum P-12, las cuales presentaron mayor altura de planta, circunferencia de pseudotallo y emisión foliar, que plantas no protegidas. Con respecto a producción, plantas inoculadas con F. oxysporum P-12, presentaron mayor peso de racimo y número de manos en las fincas Bananita, Carmen-2 y Duacari-2, diferenciándose estadísticamente del testigo absoluto.

Summary, etc	The objective of present study was to evaluate the biocontrol effect of endophytic fungi on Radopholus similis, in four commercial banana farms in Costa Rica.These results imply that the three nematicide applications can be substituted by just one inoculation with endophytic fungi without affecting R. similis management in commercial plantations. On the other hand inoculation with the endophytic fungi promoted plant growth significantly, so as to force the field planting date ahead by two weeks. The same growth- promoting tendency was registered under field conditions, especially for plants inoculated with T. atroviride isolate S-2 and the F. oxysporum isolate P-12 which demonstrated greater plant height, pseudostem circumference and foliar emission than non-inoculated plants. With respect to production, plants inoculated with F. oxysporum P-12 had significantly greater bunch weights and number of hands in Bananita, Carmen-2 and Duacari-2 farms than absolute control plants.
