El presente trabajo fue desarrollado en el Instituto de Investigación Agropecuaria de Panamá (IDIAP), bajo condiciones de sistema protegido, con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de abonos orgánicos y biofertilizantes líquidos sobre el crecimiento y desarrollo de plántulas de tomate como alternativa a la fertilización sintética. Las variables de respuesta evaluadas fueron: germinación, altura, diámetro, biomasa foliar y de raíz (peso fresco y seco), porcentaje de incidencia de enfermedad por hongos (mal de talluelo y contenido de clorofila, que fueron medidas a los 5, 10, 15 y 20 días después de siembra (dds). Los resultados obtenidos en ambos tipos de abonos orgánicos (con residuos de caña y con residuos a base de arroz y gallinaza), muestran que el costo de producción por quintal es menor si lo comparamos con el costo del sustrato comercial, permitiéndonos obtener plántulas con costos inferiores a lo que costaría producir con insumos convencionales. |

This research was developed at the Agriculture Research Institute of Panama (IDIAP), under the protected system conditions and its objective was to evaluated the effect of organic fertilizers and liquid biofertilizers on growth and tomato plantlets development as an alternative to synthetic fertilization. Response variables evaluated were: germination, height, diameter, foliar and root biomass (fresh and dry weight), fungus disease incidence (small stem disease) and chlorophyll content. These variables were measured after 5, 10, 15 and 20 days of planting (dds.). The results obtained for both organic fertilizer types (sugarcane residues and residues based on rice and chicken manure) indicate that hundredweight production cost is lower compared to the commercial substrate cost, allowing to obtain lower cost plantlets than those produced using conventional inputs. |
