Se realizó un estudio sobre el impacto de los usos actuales sobre la calidad del agua en la subcuenca del Río Jucuapa, Matagalpa, Nicaragua en los meses de Febrero a Abril del 2002. Para tal fin, se seleccionaron tres fuentes de contaminación puntual, ubicados en los afluentes del Río Jucuapa en la parte alta de la Subcuenca: Haciendas cafetaleras con asentamientos humanos La Pintada, Santa Josefina y Los Angeles. Se hizo un muestreo mensual durante los meses de Febrero, Marzo y Abril, antes de la descarga de contaminación y después de la descarga de contaminación. A fin de monitorear el comportamiento de los contaminantes también se eligieron cuatro puntos aguas abajo, en todos estos puntos de muestreo, se midieron las siguientes variables físico-quimicas: Temperatura, pH, Conductividad Eléctrica, Sólidos Sedimentables, Demanda Biológica de Oxígeno, Demanda Bioquímica de Oxígeno, Nitrógeno Amoniacal, de igual forma se realizó un análisis de coliformes fecales en las fuentes de abastecimiento de agua potable. Complementario a esto se estudió la percepción de la población local e Instituciones Gubernamentales, ONG's, sobre la calidad del agua. |

During February and April 2002, a study of the impacts of current uses over the water quality in the sub-watershed of Jucuapa River, Matagalpa, Nicaragua was done. Three pollution-sources points located upstream of the Jucuapa River feeder were selected. The points are La Pintada, Santa Josefina, and Los Angeles, which are coffee haciendas with human settlements. During February, March, and April, before and after the pollution discharge, a monthly monitoring was undertaken. In order to monitor pollution behavior, four downstream points were also selected. In these four monitoring points, the following physical-chemical variables were measured: Temperature, pH, electric conductivity, sedimentable solids, biological demand of oxygen, biochemical demand of oxygen, and ammoniacal nitrogen. In addition, a fecal coliform analysis of the potable-water sources was done. At the same time, the perception of the local population and governmental organizations (GO's) over the water quality was studied. |
