En esta investigación se unen dos herramientas: la medición de la efectividad del manejo y el monitoreo del mismo. La metodología para la medición de la efectividad del manejo es una herramienta desarrollada por Cifuentes et al. 2000, y que ha sido usada y difundida en varios países latinoamericanos; con ella se han evaluado áreas de diversas categorías, áreas individuales, subsistemas de ellas y se han generado muchas experiencias del manejo en áreas protegidas. La investigación se desarrolló en La Reserva Cayos Cochinos, siendo este un archipiélago que consta de 12 pequeños cayos y dos islas boscosas, Cayo Mayor y Menor. Creada por acuerdo ejecutivo por el gobierno de Honduras en 1993. Cayos Cochinos, forman parte de una franja de arrecifes coralinos, y se encuentran habitados por tres comunidades Garífunas cuya actividad principal es la pesca. El diseño de un sistema de monitoreo del manejo del área protegida es la orientación de la investigación la cual basándose en los resultados de la medición de la efectividad del manejo, permite identificar indicadores, plantear sus respectivos verificadores y desarrollar metas para tener un mejor control en el manejo y avance de este. |

In this investigation two tools are joined: measurement management effectiveness and its monitoring. The methodology for the measurement management effectiveness, developed by Cifuentes et al. 2000, has been used and promoted in several Latin-American countries, to evaluate areas of different categories; individual areas and their subsystems. Besides being internationally known, it has generated experiencie in the management of protected areas. The study was realized in the Biological Reserve Cayos Cochinos (RBCC). It is formed by an archipielago of 12 small island reefs and two forested islands, Cayo Mayor and Cayo Menor. Created by an executive decree by the Honduran government in 1993. Cayos Cochinos also forms part of a stripe of coral reefs and are inhabited by three garífuna communities whose principal activity is fishing. The design of a monitoring system for the management of a protected area was based in the results of a measurement management effectiveness, to identify indicators, state its respective verifiers and develop goals to have a better control of the management and its advance during the period established. |
