El presente trabajo, hace un análisis general sobre la situación de los bosques secundarios en el caso de Honduras, donde miles de familias se benefician de este tipo de bosque. Sin embargo, el problema de la no-disponibilidad de información, en la descripción específica de los productos mismos, cantidad, valor, dónde y cómo estos son utilizados, hace que estos sean no considerados en la elaboración de planes de desarrollo rural o proyectos relacionados con la actividad forestal. El objetivo general del presente trabajo fue determinar el aporte del bosque secundario a la economía de las familias rurales hondureñas. Partiendo de la hipótesis que bienes y servicios provenientes del bosque secundario son usados, directa o indirectamente por un elevado porcentaje de productores locales, para el fortalecimiento de la economía familiar, y que este uso e importancia del bosque secundario está diferenciada de acuerdo al nivel socioeconómico de las familias y a factores biofísicos (zonas climáticas) que condicionan el uso de los mismos. El estudio tuvo lugar en cuatro comunidades de Honduras, dos ubicadas en el trópico húmedo (zona norte) y dos en el trópico seco (zona sur). Se encuestaron un total de 123 productores, los cuales fueron categorizados en pequeños, medianos y grandes productores. Haciendo un análisis para cada unidad familiar en cuanto a los productos del bosque secundario que son empleados en el componente agrícola, pecuario y aquellos que son directamente empleados en la familia. En general la contribución total (efectivos + no efectivos) del bosque secundario a la economía familiar es de un 11 por ciento, sin embargo únicamente representa el 4.5 por ciento considerando únicamente los ingresos en efectivo. Finalmente se estableció que no existe diferencia significativa en cuanto a la importancia y uso de los bienes y servicios entre las distintas categorías de los productores, esta es más evidente entre zonas de diferentes condiciones biofísicas. |

The present work analysed the situation of secondary forests in Honduras, where many families are beneficiaries of this forest type. The general objective was to determine the contribution of secondary forest products and services to the economies of rural families in Honduras. The hypothesis was put forth that goods and services of the secondary forest are used, directly or indirectly by a large percentage of local farmers, to fortify the family economy. This use and the importance of the secondary forest is differentiated according to the socioeconomic level of the families and the biophysical factors (climatic) that condition the use of this resource. The study was carried out in four communities in Honduras, two located in the humid tropics (northern area) and two in the dry tropics (southern area). A total of 123 farmers were interviewed, categorized into groups of small, medium and large farmers. An analysis was carried out of where the products of the secondary forest are employed for each family unit across the diferent farm components: Those used in agricultural production, those used in the livestock component and those directly employed by the family. Finally it was established that there does not exist significant difference in the importance and use of the goods and services among the different categories of farmers, but there is a greater difference between areas of different biophysical conditions. |
