La sub-línea silvopastoril de CATIE ha dado los siguientes resultados de estudios recientes: 1) La integración de Acacia mangium con pasturas de Brachiaria humidicola mejoró la calidad de un suelo ácido y la productividad de la pastura; 2) El uso de estiércol de vaca como un substrato para la siembra directa de semillas de Pithecellobium saman en pasturas resultó en una reducción en daños de las plántulas por plagas, pisoteo y ramoneo; 3) El daño de árboles maderables comerciales en potreros fue significativamente menor cuando el manejo de pastoreo dejó una mayor producción de forraje disponible; 4) Los taninos en los forrajes afectan la utilización de N por rumiantes; 5) Se identificó especies forrajeras tolerantes a sombra; y 6) El modelaje de sistemas de uso de la tierra muestra que la siembra de árboles maderables y de uso múltiple en potreros fueron importantes para reducir las pérdidas de nutrientes del suelo. |
