El estudio da a conocer los beneficios que está generando el Sistema Nacional de Áreas de Conservación de Costa Rica (SINAC) en el manejo de la biodiversidad del país. Además, señala los logros y las dificultades que enfrentan los responsables de las áreas protegidas en aplicar la administración descentralizada y el proceso de desarrollo sostenible que promueve el Estado. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la aplicación del concepto de “Área de Conservación” en el manejo y desarrollo del Sistema Nacional de Áreas Silvestres Protegidas de Costa Rica. Como metodología se realizó la recopilación de la información relacionada con la evolución del SINAC. Se revisaron los documentos y se tomaron los datos históricos que revelan el surgimiento de las áreas. Como resultados se encontró que las personas relacionadas directamente con el funcionamiento de las áreas: asesores, representantes de instituciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales, un escaso 12% dominan del concepto y a la vez, desempeñan cargos altos en su lugar de trabajo. Un 35% manejan parcialmente el concepto de AC. Es necesario mencionar que el manejo del concepto de AC en las dos áreas de conservación es similar. La mayor concentración de respuestas se dio para conocimiento parcial, confuso y no lo sabe. Solamente el 25% lo maneja entre bastante bien o lo domina. MINAE está haciendo un esfuerzo en el ámbito de la conservación de los recursos naturales, lo que involucra, tanto la administración de los recursos naturales a nivel nacional, como la participación de la sociedad en general, a través de la ejecución del Proyecto de Implementación del SINAC. |

The study reveals the benefits that the National System of Conservation Areas of Costa Rica (SINAC) is generating in the management of the country's biodiversity. In addition, it points out the achievements and difficulties faced by those responsible for protected areas in applying decentralized administration and the process of sustainable development promoted by the State. The objective of this research was to evaluate the application of the concept of "Conservation Area" in the management and development of the National System of Protected Wilderness Areas of Costa Rica. As a methodology, the compilation of information related to the evolution of SINAC was carried out. The documents were reviewed and the historical data that reveals the emergence of the areas was taken. As results, it was found that the people directly related to the operation of the areas: advisers, representatives of governmental and non-governmental institutions, a scarce 12% dominate the concept and at the same time, hold high positions in their workplace. 35% partially manage the concept of AC. It is necessary to mention that the management of the CA concept in the two conservation areas is similar. The highest concentration of answers was given for partial knowledge, confused and does not know. Only 25% handle it quite well or dominate it. MINAE is making an effort in the field of natural resource conservation, which involves both the administration of natural resources at the national level, and the participation of society in general, through the execution of the Project for the Implementation of the SINAC. |
