La fragmentación de bosques ha provocado la reducción y el deterioro de hábitats cambiando además la estructura y la composición de los elementos que componen el paisaje. Este estudio pretendió caracterizar la estructura, diversidad y composición espacial de los hábitats que conforman un paisaje fragmentado, y determinar los aportes que las cercas vivas pueden dar a la estructura y a la conectividad física en Río Frío, región atlántica de Costa Rica. Este estudio refuerza la importancia que pueden tener los distintos hábitats que conforman un paisaje fragmentado para la conservación de especies de árboles y analiza como las cercas vivas pueden favorecer la conectividad física de bosques a escalas espaciales más amplias. Forest fragmentation leads to the reduction and deterioration of habitats, and changes the structure and composition of the landscape. The study, conducted in the Atlantic region of Costa Rica (Rio Frio), characterized the diversity and the spatial structure and composition of habitats in a fragmented landscape, and explored the contribution of livfences on the structure and physical connectivity of this landscape. The study strengthened the importance of different habitats for the conservation of tree species on a landscape-level, and analysed how livefences in tropical areas may favor the physical connectivity of forests on a broader spatial scale.
