El chile dulce (Capsicum annum) y el tomate (Lycopersicom esculentum) son los productos hortícolas que más se cultivan en invernaderos en Costa Rica. Debido principalmente al riesgo de contaminación que representa el uso de fungicidas para el control de enfermedades, se consideró la necesidad de buscar opciones de manejo para sustituir estos productos tóxicos. Se evaluaron varias opciones de manejo, pero los mejores resultados se obtuvieron con la utilización de extractos de plantas y otros minerales como azufre, ceniza y cobre. Sweet pepper (Capsicum annum) and tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) are the most important vegetable products in Costa Rica. Because of the risk of contamination that using fungicides represents for the control of diseases, it was necessary to look for new options to substitute these toxic products. Several control alternatives were evaluated, but the best results were obtained when using extracts from plants and other minerals such as sulfur, ashes and copper.
